(American, born 1960)

Location: Pierce College - Fort Steilacoom, Lakewood

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Modern Times Café is part of artist Kelly Povo's series of photographs capturing old diners. She notes, "They say something about the way the world worked back then and about the kind of people who build them, and the buildings they left behind reflect that. Call it class, call it panache or architectural moxie, these designs had a flair to them, a personality you can see and feel at a glance." She shot this diner in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She took the image in black and white, and hand-colored the print using oils and colored pencil.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Pierce College.
