ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Nan Johnson created the abstract painting Family Reunion after returning from visiting family. The colorful and energetic figures represent a crowd in motion. Johnson composed this piece through a spontaneous process of layering and scraping away paint and oil stick while rotating the canvas.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Coupeville School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Seattle-based artist Nan Johnson creates abstract and narrative paintings. She studied art at Western Washington University in Bellingham (Northwestern Washington), the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, and the University of Washington in Seattle.
