Maple Leaf House, 1994

Gerry Newcomb
(American, born 1951)

Location: Horizons Elementary, Lacey

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Maple Leaf House is a glass and stone sculpture by artist Gerry Newcomb. The sculpture combines architectural features with casts of maple leaves collected near the artist’s home. He notes, “My ideas for my work start with the ideals of man constructing something for himself. Not only a structure to be in as shelter but structures for larger community. Meeting places, storage places, manufacturing spaces, places to travel through, religious spaces.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Thurston Public Schools.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
