Watching the Rodeo, 1993
Spike Mafford
(American, born 1963)
Location: Peninsula High School, Gig Harbor
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Spike Mafford captured the photograph Watching the Rodeo in Chesaw, Washington. Chesaw is a small community located in Okanogan County. The town hosts a Rodeo on the fourth of July each year. Mafford notes, "This small town near the Canadian border becomes overrun with visitors and contestants for the annual rodeo. With the stands so crowded, these fans were desperate for a good view of the action! The composition is asymmetrical, which breaks up the visual rhythm and keeps your eye moving."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula School District.
