This untitled artwork is part of artist Philip Govedare's "Scavi" series of drawings. They take their name from an Italian word for archeological exploration. Govedare creates a visual composition that is inspired by Italy's monuments, ruins, and ancient maps, and emphasizes materials and process.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Kent School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Philip Govedare creates paintings and drawings that are "a response to the landscape we inhabit with all its complexity and layered meanings". He lives and works in Seattle and is a professor of art at the University of Washington in Seattle.
