ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Susan Brandeis' lush and complex textile construction By Hook or By Crook is part of a series that evoke layered structures seen in nature. These compositions reference imagery such as a forest floor, sediment in the ocean, microscopic plant tissue, and the landscape as seen from aerial photographs. This piece was created by sewing together and assembling screen printed fabrics and flexible materials.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Thurston Public Schools.
