Leaf, 1987
Francesca Lacagnina
(American, born 1956)
Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Leaf is a hand colored photograph created by artist Francesca Lacagnina. This piece looks at the formal relationships between the human figure and the structures of plants and animals. She notes, "The human figure permits a remarkable flexibility in conveying personality and character. I use gesture to capture the sense of growth: growth in nature and in the evolution of concept. In combining the natural with the pose I am looking for the link which turns the ordinary into the magical."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Kitsap School District.
