ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Thrill of Constant Motion is an elaborate abstract painting by artist Counsel Langley. The imagery feature stylized waves, tentacles, and figures in motion. Describing her process, the artist notes, "Much of my work comes down to finding balance between two opposing approaches. One, loose painting techniques: dripping, pours, flow and scatters, which effectively represent natural elements – weather, water, clouds, smoke, etc. And the other, using architects’ tools, templates and compasses to rigorously draw controlled lines, concentric circles, grids and repetitive dots; using these to reflect structures and infrastructures that we build."

Curator Kathleen Garrett selected this artwork as part of a collection of artworks for Peninsula College in Port Angeles. The artworks installed in Keegan Hall reflect the Pacific Northwest and the many subjects taught in the building. These include Aquaculture, Physics, Biology, and Information Technology.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.
