ABOUT THE ARTWORK
David Fichter's mural depicts contemporary student life at Orchards Elementary in Southwestern Washington. The artwork's imagery is framed by lush apple trees. Fichter's method of mural-painting includes research time at the school, photography, design, and finally painting on site, making adjustments as he gets to know the local community. The mural spans a back wall and spills out into adjoining hallways, the ceiling, and up a nearby stairwell.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Evergreen School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
David Fichter is a Massachusetts-based community muralist. He engages the community with his work, working with students and teachers to create group murals that explore the unique aspects and diversity of their schools and communities.
Fichter graduated at Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His murals are found in the United States and other countries, including Armenia, Georgia, and Nicaragua.
