Strawberry Fields #5, 2001

(American, born 1954)

Location: Washington Elementary School, Vancouver

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Strawberry Fields #5 is a hand-painted photograph by artist Connie Ritchie. The image was taken during a biking trip through England. The composition encourages viewers to create their own story. Where does this path lead? She notes, “These painted photographs are not intended as documents of a specific time or place, but as a portal for your mind to wander where it will, the spark that illuminates a lost memory or a window of refuge. Given time to rest, I believe, the mind can create wondrous ideas and a full internal life. I hope that my images can help take you to that internal place of imagination and wonder.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Vancouver School District.
