ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Constructed of galvanized steel material used to hang plumbing, Erector Blue Heron is an example of artist Harold Hoy's body of animal sculptures conceptually inspired by his childhood memories playing with an Erector set. Hoy notes that these works represent "the task of rebuilding nature, to restoring nature to the way it was before humans exploited its riches."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Rochester School District.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Oregon-based artist Harold Hoy creates figurative animal sculptures from galvanized steel. His materials and process of construction are conceptually inspired by the "Erector Set" metal toy construction sets.
Hoy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Washington University in Ellensburg and his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and sculpture from the University of Oregon. He served for many years as an art instructor and gallery director at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon.
