Boing!, 1999

George Radebaugh
(American, born 1950)

Location: Lydia Hawk Elementary, Lacey

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist George Radebaugh created the whimsical sculpture ‘Boing!’ using CDs (compact discs) and their plastic cases. It is part of his body of CD sculptures showing “that beautiful work can be made with everyday materials.” The simple composition of these overlapping, shimmering CDs suggests the path of a bouncing ball. The way light reflects on the surface also gives the impression of movement.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Thurston Public Schools.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist and musician George Radebaugh creates playful sculptures and large-scale installations comprised entirely from compact discs. He is based in Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula in Northwestern Washington.
