ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Alphabet of a Sympathetic Dialect is comprised of 26 photographs portraying close-up views of old farm machinery, arranged by their abstracted similarity to each letter of the alphabet. Artist Ken Spiering was inspired to create this piece after moving his studio to the countryside of eastern Washington, reminiscent of the Wyoming landscape where he spent his youth.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Washington School District.

Eastern Washington-based artist Ken Spiering creates artworks in many different media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Many of his works have been created for public spaces, with a focus on natural imagery rich with metaphor.
