Year of the Dog: Happy Chinese Lunar New Year (2018)

In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year (February 16, 2018) – the Year of the Dog – we are pleased to present a selection of artworks in the State Art Collection that feature dogs.

In Chinese astrology, each year is related to a Chinese zodiac animal according to a 12-year cycle. Those who were born in the years 2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946, and 1934 are known as Dogs.

The Dog is the symbol of loyalty and honesty in the Chinese zodiac. People born in the Year of the Dog possess the best traits of human nature: they are honest, friendly, loyal, smart, and have a strong sense of responsibility. On the negative side, they are likely to be stubborn, critical of others, and not good at social activities.
