Six of the Line Series, 1982

Edward Humpherys
(Nationality unknown)

Location: Washington State Penitentiary, Walla Walla

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Six of the Line Series is an abstract sculpture created by artist Edward Humpherys. It is part of his body of work exploring the idea of a "three dimensional line drawing." He notes that the forms have no reference to any specific object. He encourages viewers to "look instead at the line-like tubes and how they enclose space to make shapes. Look at the patterns these shapes or voids make and how they affect one another in their size and placement."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Corrections.
