ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Randy Hayes created three figurative paintings for his River Rescue triptych. Each panel features a vibrant background landscape. Seen together in sequence, the panels appear to relate as different parts of an overall scene. Hayes purposefully leaves the symbolism open to your interpretation.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Corrections.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mississippi-based artist Randy Hayes creates figurative paintings, drawings, and photographs. He is known for his method of painting directly onto grids of photographs.
Born in Mississippi, Hayes studied sculpture and painting at Rhodes College in Tennessee. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Memphis College of Art in Tennessee in 1968. He lived and made art in Seattle from 1976 to 2013, where he also ran a bookstore and gallery for several years. He returned to Mississippi in 2013.
