ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Entangled Agency by artist Lisa Little is a site-specific sculptural installation for the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, located in Parrington Hall at the University of Washington. The artwork is inspired by ideas related to the work and studies done in the building. Entangled Agency represents the two main elements of public policy: complex networks and the people affected by them. It represents these forces through a net-like structure of connected and bent brass rods. The components that connect the rods together are another important and essential part of the artwork. These components are different shapes and sizes. They represent the people affected by public policies and remind us that each of those people is unique and independent.

Entangled Agency asks us to remember that “policy is designed to create equity and inclusion and to provide for the well-being of the smallest elements in the system, such as an individual or a neighborhood.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with University of Washington.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lisa Little creates public art that often intersects with her engineering and architecture backgrounds. Her work aims “to engage ambient phenomena through built form.”
Little holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). She is a licensed architect who designs private homes and commercial interiors. She also teaches design at the University of Southern California.
