ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Jerry Mayer's landscape sculpture The Island is formed in the shape of the island (McNeil Island) on which it is located, in Puget Sound. It encourages self-reflection and meditation at a specialized mental health treatment facility operated by the Department of Social and Health Services.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.

Portland, Oregon-based artist Jerry Mayer creates sculptures in a variety of mediums. He is a founding member of Nine Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
