Spring Vines, 1983

Nance Bracken
(American, born 1946, died 2021)

Location: Washington State University - Prosser, Prosser

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Nance Bracken created the landscape Spring Vines using an etching process. In this technique, she etches the image into a printing plate using acid. She then loads the plate with ink. The ink transfers onto paper using a printing press. This composition features energetic, gestural lines. The lines create the vineyard scene’s textured vegetation. The artist notes, “Very romantically speaking, the landscape is my solitary companion and undemanding friend who humors me, humbles my ego and creates line fantasies before by eyes.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District and Washington State University - Prosser.
