The Old and New is a simple but striking photograph by artist Earl Olsen that explores form and light. The imagery depicts the close-up detail of two cattail leaves, taken at Scriber Lake in Lynnwood, Northwestern Washington.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Puyallup School District.

Northwest photographer Earl Olsen creates his images to "see the unseen in the commonplace that surrounds us every day." He lives and works on Whidbey Island, Northwestern Washington.
