Monteverde Cloud Forest #13, 1990
Tyler Boley
(American, born 1950)
Location: Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Artist Tyler Boley captured the photograph Monteverde Cloud Forest #13 in the mountains of Costa Rica. He notes, "It is a private reserve high in the mountains incredibly rich in fauna and flora… It was bewildering and awesomely beautiful at the same time, at once scary and warmly inviting, like you finally got home after all these years.
Visually, the place was a mess. There is always something two feet from your face receding into a gigantic complex canopy. Move the camera a couple of inches and the whole image changes. This resulted in images that are more like a tapestry of information. Rarely is there a single subject that dominates, everything integrates."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Yakima School District.
