ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Carey Dean's mosaic Almost Paradise is a re-imagined view of Mount Rainier from the Paradise are of the national park. The artist considers this spot to be one of Washington's most beautiful locations. She notes that the scene is “void of man-made architectural forms and people to create a more serene and peaceful scene... visually calming and reflective in a positive way.”
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carey Dean specializes in stained glass contemporary art mosaics and mixed media paintings. Many of her mosaics are inspired by the Japanese concept of “forest bathing” wherein exposure to trees has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, anxiety and blood pressure. Her art creates inviting and calming environments, and bring the illusion of nature into architectural spaces.
