Artist Jim Hirschfield creates sculptures and installations for public spaces. He studied at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1976. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oregon in 1978. He has served as a visiting artist and instructor at the University of Oregon, the University of Washington, and the Factory of Visual Art in Seattle. He currently serves as chair of the art department at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he has taught for 28 years.
