Mary Ann Peters
(American | Lebanese, born 1949)
Seattle-based artist Mary Ann Peters balances a studio practice with the creation of public art projects and arts activism. She notes, "I work from the premise that images are never neutral and that they sustain layered meaning from the inception of an idea to the completed piece. Historical narratives, architecture, science, personal heritage, politics and questions of perception have all played a part in my thinking over the years." She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Printmaking from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Washington, Seattle in 1978.
