Seattle-based artist Whiting Tennis creates paintings, sculpture, and collage that explore structure and symbolism. Born in Virginia, he moved to Seattle in 1972. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1984. After finishing his degree, he moved to Barcelona, Spain for a period. While living in Spain, painter and american expatriate Frank Box became his mentor. In addition to his art practice, Tennis has performed in several garage rock bands, and served as set carpenter for film and theater productions.
