Midori Kono Thiel

Seattle-based artist and teacher Midori Kono Thiel creates traditional Japanese artworks, including Sumi-e paintings, calligraphy, and textiles.

Midori Kono Thiel was born in Berkeley, California, and grew up on Maui, Hawaii. She earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. During 1960-61, she received a University of California travelling fellowship and studied woodblock printmaking and color woodblock in Tokyo, Japan. She has exhibited at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Portland Art, the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience in Seattle, and more.
