Mary Miss is a New York City-based artist. Her environmental installations explore issues of sustainability. They engage the natural landscape and elements of urban design. She is the founder of "City as Living Laboratory," which facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration among artists, urban planners, and scientists working on sustainable development projects. She has taught at the School of Visual Arts, Cooper Union, and Sarah Lawrence College, among other institutions. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1966. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Rinehart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Art Institute in 1968.
