Cris Bruch

(American, born 1957)

Cris Bruch is a sculptor who uses non-traditional materials to indirectly consider consumer culture and social and economic disparity. His art also typically reflects on the process of artmaking and the unconscious, repeated actions that form our lives and define who we are. He is especially interested in time, turbulence, and curvature.

Bruch was born and raised in Missouri State. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1980) in ceramics and sculpture at the University of Kansas at Lawrence. He earned a Master of Art in video (1985) and a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture (1986) at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He moved to Seattle in 1986, where he has lived since. A comprehensive survey of his work was presented by the Salt Lake Art Center, Utah in 2003.
