(American, born 1980)
Julie Alpert makes temporary, theatrical, site-specific installations using found materials and everyday arts and craft supplies. Her colorful artworks simulate the exuberance and surreality of celebrations, as well as their decorations, clothing, and sometimes disappointments. She also creates lots of drawings, collage, and ceramics as a way to work out visual motifs, color, texture, light, and illusion for her installations.
Alpert was born and raised in the Washington D.C. suburbs. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. She splits her time between Seattle, Washington, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
