About the Artwork

Harvest is a photograph by artist William Woolston. The image shows two threshers set in an expansive landscape. A thresher is a machine that separates small grain and seed crops from their chaff and straw. The simple, rural sky and land contrast with the huge, complicated machine. Woolston has also captured the stark contrast of light and shadow. This piece is part of a body of work by Woolston that documents wheat harvesting in the Palouse region.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.

About the Artist

Landscape and documentary photographer Bill Woolston captures scenes of a timeless and rugged American West.
Woolston is Professor Emeritus at the University of Idaho's College of Art and Architecture where he specialized in digital imaging, photography, and visual thinking. A selection of his black and white photographs are featured at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. He received a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Art Institute of Chicago.
