About the Artwork

As the Eagle Flies is a large-scale tapestry created by artist Cecilia Blomberg. Hand-woven using vibrant colors, the composition depicts a birds-eye-view of the lower Columbia River and the surrounding landscape. The tapestry features imagery and forms that remind the viewer of the rich history, culture, and environment of the area. Blomberg notes "the river is the magnet as well as the source of life...our role here is to treasure and protect our fragile environment and pass on our respect to future generations."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State University.

About the Artist

Swedish tapestry artist Cecilia Blomberg lives and works in Western Washington. Creating artworks for public and private spaces, Blomberg's tapestries intricately depict figurative imagery. She studied textile arts, crafts, and design at institutions in Sweden.
