About the Artwork

'Future Fossil, 3-3' is part of a series of fifteen photographs by artist Michael Van Horn. He designed these images to simulate how objects from the present may be fossilized in the future. This image tells a story about Van Horn's tragic vision of the future. What is the future state of technology? Of the environment? Of human civilization?

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Riverside School District.

About the Artist

Michael Van Horn is a Seattle-based photographer and filmmaker.
Van Horn serves as an Instructional Technician for the University of Washington School of Art Photography Program. He also serves as curator of the Joseph and Elain Monsen Photography Collection in Seattle. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Filmmaking and Photography from San Francisco Art Institute in 1983. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1986.
