About the Artwork

Bedouin Garden, Sinai 1981 is part of artist Ronnie Tessler's series "Israel: Between Poetry and Reality." Tessler notes that the works in this series "reflect the complex nature of Israeli life and society...Confined in an area two hundred and fifty-six miles long and eighty-one miles at its widest part are intricate layerings of history, geography, architecture, religion, language, sociology, and politics." Using a technique in which parts of the image are hand-colored and other parts masked from toner, the composition highlights elements of conflict and coexistence.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
