About the Artwork

Artist Jean Cacicedo created the mixed media collage Red Dog Territory by stitching together handmade papers. She made the richly saturated colors by hand dying the paper pulp. Once dried, she added inks, paints, and additional embellishments to the surface of the papers.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.

About the Artist

Berkeley, California-based artist and teacher Jean Cacicedo creates sculptural artworks from fiber and handmade paper. She states, "Cloth, and the transformative potential of its’ surface and structure, is the primary element in my work. My sewn constructions tell stories about images collected from journeys both physical and spiritual.”
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. She has taught fiber arts at many national and international colleges and institutions.
