About the Artwork

Winter Explosion is a hyper-realistic painting of a burning explosion. It is part of artist Natalie Niblack's body of paintings commenting on the environmental impact of human activity. She notes of this work, "It asks the viewer to recognize the consequences of our relationship with the environment, and that the choices we have collectively made is inevitably, and perhaps irrevocably, altering the world around us." Curator Kathleen Garrett selected this artwork as part of a collection of artworks for Peninsula College in Port Angeles. The artworks installed in Keegan Hall reflect the Pacific Northwest and the many subjects taught in the building. These include Aquaculture, Physics, Biology, and Information Technology.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Peninsula College.

About the Artist

Natalie Niblack is a Skagit Valley-based painter. She mainly creates landscapes and still life paintings of draped fabric. Her work suggests the impact human activity has on the environment. Natalie Niblack attended the University of Montana, Missoula prior to the School of Visual Concepts, Seattle, Washington. She received a Master of Fine Arts degree at Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh, Scotland.
