About the Artwork

Artist William Woolston captures a farming structure set against the winter landscape in his Hog Shed photograph. He has also captured the stark contrast of light and shadow with the white snow and cloudy sky contrasting the dark wood shed. This piece is part of a body of work by Woolston that documents wheat harvesting and farming in the Palouse region.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

About the Artist

Landscape and documentary photographer Bill Woolston captures scenes of a timeless and rugged American West.
Woolston is Professor Emeritus at the University of Idaho's College of Art and Architecture where he specialized in digital imaging, photography, and visual thinking. A selection of his black and white photographs are featured at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. He received a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Art Institute of Chicago.
