About the Artwork

Artist T. Michael Gardiner painted La Fermata to represent joy and celebration. The Carnival festival of Mardi Gras inspired this piece, as well as jazz, travel, a gallery viewing of artworks, and colorful landscapes. It captures a fleeting moment, with all of the people actively moving to the next moment in their lives.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Sultan School District.

About the Artist

Seattle-based artist T. Michael Gardiner creates drawings and paintings.
Born in Seattle, Gardiner received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas' Seminary in Kenmore, Washington. He studied painting, drawing, and printmaking at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. He received a Teaching Certificate from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1978.
