About the Artwork

Artist Kathy Fridstein printed the photograph New Mexico #2 in her own darkroom. She projected the negative onto a wall before developing the print using large hand-built troughs. She then applied chalk pastel after the print dried to create a subtle sepia tone. She notes that this piece "relates how ancient markings retain their power even today. The merging of contemporary hand shadows with ancient petroglyphs of hands suggests that we are connected to our past."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Pasco School District.
