About the Artwork

Voices of the Columbia is a sculpture created by Howard Meehan and Kathleen Meehan. It is a celebration of the Columbia River and the people it has supported over the course of Washington's history. The hanging sculpture references fishing nets, sailing rigging, river pilings, and sparkling ripples of water.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Clark College.

About the Artist

Howard Meehan and Kathleen Meehan were a Portland, Oregon-based artist team who created multi-media public art installations under the name Firefly Studio, starting in 1988. Both artists continue to create public art independently.
