Romeo & Juliet, 1991
Julie Paschkis
American (born 1957)
Location: Dearborn Park International Elementary School, Seattle
About the Artwork
Artist Julie Paschkis created Romeo & Juliet as part of a series of collaged paintings of everyday objects such as teapots, cups, chairs, shoes, and pencils. This piece playfully references the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet from Shakespeare's play as a fountain pen and a pencil. It is made from repurposed food tins that have been cut and hammered onto a wood base. Both the tin shapes and the wood is painted.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle Public Schools.
