Meditation Shield, 1994

David Govedare
American (born 1950, died 2021)

Location: Clarkston Heights Elementary, Clarkston

About the Artwork

Meditation Shield is part of Northwest artist David Govedare's series of symbolic shields that use natural and geometric imagery to create visual narratives. He notes that these pieces “examine designs that reflect my investigation of the inner self. Shapes in art define meaning just like words convey meaning in language. The development of my art comes from man's ancient urge to document inspiration."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Clarkston School District.
