About the Artwork
Artist Ken Spiering created the painting Reduced Mobility: The Toll of Past Burdens as part of his 'Rural Metaphors' series of paintings. He hopes that this piece presents "a sense of accepting one's burdens and finding fulfillment in having completed not only a day's work, but also the possibility of having lived a full and meaningful life." Having spent a long career making corporate and public artwork, Spiering returned to painting more personal compositions. He notes, "I moved my studio and home from residential settings in Spokane to the rural countryside around Valleyford, WA in August 1998… I have experienced a rebirth and excitement in painting amidst this type of rural subject matter that was such an integral part of my growing up on a homestead in Wyoming."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Davenport School District.
