About the Artwork

Under Their Wheels is part of artist Stephen Zimmerman's body of work examining the beauty of everyday structures. He captured this image under the I-90 highway near Mercer Island, Washington. He notes, "Tens of thousands of people drive over this area on a daily basis while never seeing the construction and concrete archways that support their vehicles. Compositionally, this area is reminiscent of cathedral scenes in its conveyance of flow and grace."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Chimacum School District.

About the Artist

Northwest photographer Stephen Zimmerman creates landscape, still life, and abstract images. His works explore man's relationship to nature. Born in Ohio, he graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1994.
