About the Artwork

Man at Kites and Banners Exhibit is a busy and colorful photograph captured by artist Louis Janson. The image was taken in Seattle Center during a 1977 exhibition of flags, banners, and kites organized by the Allied Arts Foundation. The composition plays with layers of reflection, with a tree and the city outside playing against brightly colored banners.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Battle Ground Public Schools.

About the Artist

Janson studied French at Oberlin College in Ohio. In 1965, he received a Master of Arts degree in romance languages from Princeton University in New Jersey. In 1973, he received a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School in Massachusetts.
