About the Artwork

Seattle artist Sherry Markovitz is known for her elaborately detailed paper-mache and beaded sculptures. Patterned Fawn depicts an animal head as a trophy, ornately patterned with beads. The artwork is symbolically investigating life and death, as well as exploring ideas about craft and gender through its technique and materials.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Shoreline Community College.

About the Artist

Celebrated Seattle artist Sherry Markovitz is best known for her elaborately detailed papier mâché and beaded sculpture, which often depict dolls or animal head trophies and investigate the symbolism of identity.
Markovitz received the 2019 Twining Humber Award for lifetime artistic achievement.
