About the Artwork

Washington artist Rita Chavez creates artworks that explore stories of fables and and fantastical animals. This monoprint is an expressive and symbolic depiction of a nesting bird. A monoprint is created by painting directly onto the printing plate, and only one print copy can be made from the plate.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Western Washington University.

About the Artist

Washington-based artist Rita Chavez creates artworks that explore allegorical and fantastical themes using a variety of materials. She grew up in South Dakota and received a Bachelor of Arts from South Dakota State University in 1973.
