About the Artwork

Artifacts of the Imaging System #90-1-45-3 is part of a series of photographs by artist John Wesley. These artworks examine how cameras change the way we view the world. He creates the series by first videotaping movement in strong light. He then isolates a still frame from the video and photographs the video monitor. This process creates lens flares, color flares, and other distortions in the image. He asks, "What did the camera's shutter do to the moving parts of the subject when it took its 'glimpse'."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Kitsap School District.

Photographer John Wesley received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Moorhead State University in Minnesota and taught photography at Bellevue Community College.
