Long Mammal, 1986

Jim Kraft
American (born 1949)

Location: Eatonville Middle School, Eatonville

About the Artwork

Artist Jim Kraft hand built Long Mammal in sections from slabs of clay. He painted the ceramic sculpture using dry colorants and colored slips, layered under a clear glaze. He notes, "Long Mammal came about because I wanted to enlarge the scale of my work. Rather than work vertically, stack up, I chose to work horizontally. Since I work with animal images anyway I chose to stretch one out and give it visual tension."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Eatonville School District.
