About the Artwork

Artist John Killmaster created this mural from sixteen enamel panels. The imagery celebrates the nature, history, and geography surrounding Lake Stevens in Northwestern Washington. It is based on drawings by Mount Pilchuck Elementary students. Killmaster painted and screen printed glass enamel onto steel panels. He then fired the panels, fusing the images to the sheet at high heat.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Stevens School District.

About the Artist

Idaho-based artist John Killmaster creates paintings, ceramics, and enamel artworks. He served as a professor of art at Boise State University in Idaho from 1970 to 1997. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan in 1969. Killmaster was honored with the Idaho Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1978.
