About the Artwork
Panel Discussion with Slowswing is a conceptual and interactive sculpture created by artist Alan Storey. The sculpture is made up of two wooden benches that are suspended from a steel structure, plus seventeen aluminum panels installed on the side of a nearby building. The swing is started when people sit on its benches. Conversations on the swing are reflected back as echoes by the sound-amplifying device at the top of the swing and the shaped aluminum panels on the nearby building. Storey wanted the sculpture to be a gathering place for the community at The Evergreen State College.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with The Evergreen State College.
